Messmer Preparatory Catholic School students show Christian leadership alongside Archbishop Jerome Listecki
Posted 05/20/2010 01:51PM

Several students and staff members from Messmer Prep recently demonstrated their Christian leadership when they volunteered their time and services on a non-school day to serve families in need. The middle school students and staff worked alongside Archbishop Listecki at the House of Peace, a Capuchin Ministry, to assist in the distribution of Easter meals and goods, including personal hygiene items generously donated by students and staff during Catholic Schools Week.

Some of the student volunteers assisted in passing out bags of goods while other students assisted families by carrying the goods to their vehicles. Archbishop Listecki met and spoke with the students prior to giving a blessing. After all the guests at the House of Peace received their items, the Archbishop spoke with the students and thanked them for their acts of kindness. The event facilitator, Guidance Counselor Kari Erickson commented, "The students were very excited!"

Gerri Sheets-Howard, House of Peace Executive Director, explained, "The Messmer Prep students were very helpful and kind. They assisted our guests with their Easter food baskets.  The hygiene items that the students gathered were greatly appreciated. These items are very expensive and it's a stretch for our guests to be able to afford such items. These students are our tomorrow. We at the House of Peace appreciate their generous spirit."
