Senior Karla Romero's artistic talent was recently recognized in a statewide art contest. The Young People's Art Exhibit awarded Karla the prize of "Best Drawing" among all high school entries from the state of Wisconsin. Her drawing was displayed at the 2009 State Fair. We asked Karla about her work.

Q. Describe your prize-winning artwork.

Karla: My winning artwork is a color pencil drawing of the outside of Messmer High School.

Q. Were you surprised to learn that you won the prize of Best Drawing?

Karla: Yes, I was super surprised when I found out I got the prize for best drawing. I was even more surprised at winning when I saw some of the other artwork.

Q. Did you go to see your work on display at the State Fair?

Karla: Yes, I saw my artwork on display at the State Fair. I was actually invited to fo in and draw so that people passing by could see me.

Q. How did it feel to draw with groups of people watching?

Karla: I felt a little nervous. I am not too comfortable drawing in front of other people and even more when they are observing me, but it was a nice experience.

Q. Do your future plans involve your interest in art?

Karla: In the future I do not plan on majoring in art in college but I do plan to continue taking art classes.

Q. One last question--what did you win?

Karla: I won $100.
